Lynn Skapyak Harlin was born in Brockton, Mass. Lived in Jacksonville since she was seven years old. Graduated from Bishop Kenny (before they had
sports and mixed sexes classes.) Graduated B.A. with a major in English and Secondary Education from Jacksonville University. Attended graduate seminars
in writing at San Francisco State and Boston University, with masters' classes at UNF.
Lynn worked as an educator for 20 years. Taught High School English, Journalism, AP and standard classes 7 - 12 in Duval County. As instructor at FCCJ
and JU, Lynn taught English, Writing Seminars and Adult Education. She conducted adult education classes in Nassau and Duval Counties, as well as creating
and conducting training programs for adult education for corporate and government employees. Was a presenter at the First Coast Writers Conference and at the
National Institute of Critical Thinkers in Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, she presented her project & poetry all over the country.
Free lance writer for thirty years. Her first poem appeared in Time Magazine. Her writing has been published in textbooks, trade magazines, literary magazines,
and newspaper articles and features. Closet Books has issued two chapbooks of Lynn's poetry: Real Women Drive Trucks (1997) and Press
One for More Options (1997).
As a reporter and photojournalist, she tackled subjects as diverse as restaurant reviews and crime news. Now she writes human-interest stories and does photography
for the Times Union River City News section. For the past five years she has been trying to write a mystery based on a woman cop in Jesup, Georgia. She teaches writing
seminars on her shanty boat located on the Trout River, in hope of notoriety in a dedication or acknowledgement in her students' books.
She became Senior Editor of Closet Books in 2002.
She lives with her parrot, Connie, her dog Missi and her husband, Jim Harlin, who is what every writer needs, a passionate reader.
